From the brilliant mind of an engineering savant, a man who went from apprentice to master under the tutelage of the greatest gunsmiths of his day, came designs akin to a Swiss watch. Whilst every bit as steadfast as his rivals, Purdey’s insightful mechanisms attained their reliability by the careful application of the finest tolerances, fine tuning, and quality control. Where other builders favour art, Purdey was a man of science. Since he opened the doors of his modest shop in 1814, where it remains to this day, Purdey and Sons has been producing guns of the highest quality.
