Scottish traditions from a Scottish icon
When David McKay Brown decided to start his business in 1967 he was already steeped in the mythos of the Scottish gunsmith – inspired by his nations important contributions to the world of arms, the patriot McKay Brown decided to lift a famous concept from the annals of antiquity, bringing his first Scottish Round Action gun to the market in 1975 – these guns, unique to his homeland, use a trigger-plate action, a design never reproduced beyond the Caledonian borders, and which allows for a lightweight gun with a beautiful and distinctive curvature to the action. Whilst these guns still hold an enduring appeal for the romantic and traditionalist, the modernist demanded something new – David McKay Brown met this challenge head on and by the early nineties, revealed Scotland’s first major home-grown firearms innovation in more than a century – the Round Action ‘Over and Under’. Today these guns offer all the advantages of a contemporary sporting gun whilst maintaining a solid foot in the traditions of yesterday.
