of "Best of the Best" at the Shooting Industry Awards
Sportarm of Dorchester has enjoyed a meteoric rise to the top of its trade -- ST joins in congratulating this remarkable gunshop on its winning "Best of the Best" 2007
n 2007, Sportarm of Dorchester achieved the amazing feat of winning the industry award "Best UK Gun Shop" for the third year in succession. The company also won the 2006 title of "Best of the Best", which was awarded by our judging panel of editors from the IPC shooting titles. This year, the judging panel thought it fair to put the "Best of the Best" vote to the readers - and the overwhelming majority conclusively agreed with our judging panel from 2006, awarding the prestigious title, this year again, to Sportarm. This succession of awards has never previously been achieved and is a fantastic commendation of the company's successful rise to the top of its industry over the past decade.
The "Best Gun Shop" award is judged on many fronts, including pre- and after-sales client service; quality and extensiveness of stock; shop presentation as well as staff ability; knowledge and overall service. This year, in order to make the judging as fair as possible, mystery shoppers were also sent to the top four gunshops shortlisted. Sportarm came out on top on every account. Further confirmation came out on top on every account. Further confirmation came in the form of letters throughout the year from our readers, who wrote describing the excellent service and enjoyable experiences they had during their visits or dealings with Sportarm.
At the same time, Sportarm and Shooting Times are giving away an AYA No.1 sidelock side by side shotgun in .410 calibre, worth £7620. It can be won at the Sporting Gun Show, at althorp
Althorp, Northamptonshire, on 11 and 12 August.
The AYA really is a gun for everyone.
Weighing only 51/2ib, with impeccable handling and balance, it can be used by all generations, and with modern 3in cartridges and the variety of shot and powder loads available today, it is more than capable of winning praise for its new owner while bagging that haigher bird. The prize gun can be viewed on the ST stand at this great new event (see page seven for details of how you can enter).
Sportarm will be bringing its award winning oak lined gunroom to the Sporting Gun Show to display its extensive range of the latest guns available. There are guns for all levels, both new and pre-owned. Sportarm offers some of the finest firearms from around the world, including shotguns made by Beretta, Browning, Abbiatico & Salvinelli, Purdey, Holland & Holland, Boss & Co and, of course, AYA. This range is second to none and will include a comprehensive array of English guns.
Readers will get another opportunity to catch up with Sportarm at the Midland Game Fair, which will be held at Weston Park, in Shropshire, on 15 and 16 September. It is the first time that Sportarm will exhibit at this event and the company looks forward to welcoming visitors to its stand.
The last word goes to the editor of Sporting Gun, Robin Scott, one of the panel judges for the Shooting Industry Awards: " I feel Sportarm can be very proud of itself at the moment. It has become a major figure, not only in the county town of Dorchester, but

also all over the country. The company is a symbol of country living, and that is the crucial point to make. For me, it seems very right that Sportarm has extended its remit into all sorts of areas of country living. It now sells what we want to wear, as well as what we want to see and do, not just for counrty sports, but for country life. What many people don't understand is that the great conservationists of the past tow centuries have been the gamekeepers -it is the gamekeepers that have kept the look of the British country side as we would wish to keep it. That is really the kind of role that Sportarm has taken on, and so they have my very best wishes."
